The saline implant called Spectrum Expandable is one of the
special types of implants. Dr. Hilton Becker is a plastic
surgery specialist and he has invented this type of implant in
collaboration with Mentor Corp., a famous implant manufacturer.
The surgeons can either utilize it as a simple breast implant
or a permanent expander. This implant consists of a reservoir
system, a fill tube and a Becker Valve. If the saline implant
is used as a regular implant the surgeon will remove the fill
tube and fill port at the time of performing the cosmetic
surgery procedure and seal the valve completely. This obviously
implies that no saline can be added or removed from this
implant. If the surgeon uses it as an expandable implant, he
will leave the fill tube of the Spectrum Expandable intact. The
fill port will be directly attached to the fill tube. This
arrangement is useful to add or remove saline in the implant.
Then the surgeon performs another surgery to remove the tube as
well as the fill port. In case you want to remove the plant at
anytime in the future the surgeon has to make the incision
longer; this is because it is not possible to remove the saline
filling.
You can also use pre-filled saline implants and these implants
are filled by the manufacturer at his works. These types of
saline implants are considered equivalent to silicone implants
in majority of the cases as regards to its look and feel.
Saline implants are normally performed with breast augmentation
procedures at the time of doing cosmetic surgeries. Although
they are good, you must ensure that you are aware of everything
about its pros and cons before opting for this. Choosing
between the saline implants and silicone implants is the most
difficult part in this surgery. Your surgeon will give all the
necessary information about various implants so that you can
choose the best one for your case. You should be curious enough
