Teens and Cosmetic Surgery Popularity
In the recent past there has been considerable increase in
the rate of growth of cosmetic surgery procedures on a year to
year basis. You will find that the number of cosmetic surgery
procedures done each year has increased; in this connection we
should look at the cosmetic surgery popularity among teens. It
has been found that more and more teenagers are resorting to
body modifications. We are not interested in discussing about
the morality of such actions; however we would like to discuss
the impact of such procedures both on our body and mind.
The development of women’s body takes place to a large
extent when they are in their teens. Hence women should take
this aspect into consideration before they think of getting the
cosmetic surgery procedures done on their bodies. No doubt
certain events could make it absolutely necessary to undergo
cosmetic surgery. In certain situations it becomes necessary to
perform cosmetic surgery on teenagers to solve some of their
health problems. Some of these operations have medical
insurance coverage and hence they need not think whether it is
necessary to be done or not. Deformities in the nose cause
breathing problems and you can look at it as the best example
of cosmetic surgery for solving issues of health. Correction of
the nose deformity might solve your breathing problems.
The problem arises when the teenager is not having any
health problems and is interested in undergoing cosmetic
surgery to fix any part of their body. You must realize that
the cosmetic surgery benefits last only for a limited number of
years. This means that the teenager has to undergo several
surgeries during their lifetimes. The question one must ask at
this point is whether this is really worth it.
Most teenagers are of the opinion that it is well worth it.
The reasoning behind this is that nowadays the world we live in
demands high social needs on an individual. You feel better
when a large number of people are around you. This is the main
reason why teenagers are keen on undergoing cosmetic surgeries.
They believe that they will look better after cosmetic
surgeries which in turn will attract many people to be around
them because of which their social life will get boosted. For
example, girls having smaller breasts aspire to have bigger
breasts so that more and more boys look at them. This has
nothing to do with the sexual aspect; they just want the boys
to appreciate their bodies. They believe that an increase in
bra size will give a positive impact. They are prepared for
this ordeal to get bigger breasts. A similar analogy can be
given for the boys also. They want to get a cosmetic facial
surgery procedure done hoping to look better. The most popular
cosmetic surgery done on men is nose job. This operation is
mostly performed to treat health problems; however many
teenagers get this done to look attractive.
One danger that the teenagers could possibly face is abuse
of cosmetic surgeries. After getting one cosmetic surgery the
teenagers might want to look better than what they look after
one surgery. This will have a cascading effect. It is not good
for teenagers to have surgeries repeatedly. Such facial
surgeries can have long term consequences. The life left for
teenagers is quite long. If you start having cosmetic surgeries
done at a young age you may have to repeat it a number of times
during your lifetime and this is not advisable.
Finally it all depends on the individual. The main
requirement in such situations is to consider the various
options available to you and discuss with your doctor all the
options and its long term side effects. You must maintain a
close contact with your doctor.
