Abdominal Liposuction
The abdominal area in the body is the one that is being
treated often by liposuction. Both men and women opt for
abdominal liposuction treatment so that they can get a flat
tummy. Many people have excess fat in the upper and lower
abdominal areas. Unfortunately such fat deposits are difficult
to remove. People try their best to remove these deposits by
following an exercising regimen and also proper diet. However
there are cases wherein these things do not work and hence the
only solution for this is to undergo abdominal liposuction.
In most of the cases requiring this surgery the doctor will
use local anesthetic; this is all the more true if the surgery
is tumescent liposuction. It might also be possible to use
general anesthesia; however this is more expensive as well as
having lots of risks. You could discuss this with your
doctor about this but he is the best person to decide on the
type of anesthesia to be given. Under normal circumstances you
could go for work within three days after abdominal
liposuction.
Abdominal fat is of two types; the first is intra-abdominal
and the second one is subcutaneous wherein the fat is situated
exactly below your skin. The subcutaneous fat can easily be
removed by abdominal liposuction whereas the same is not
possible for intra-abdominal fat. If your abdominal area has
muscles that are protruding prominently you must realize that
the problem is serious. That too, if there is fat on it. You
may not be able to get a flat tummy with liposuction. This
procedure does not affect the abdominal muscle.
*Nowadays the tumescent abdominal liposuction is the most
commonly performed abdominal liposuction. The patient is
normally given local anesthetic after which the surgery is
performed. The area to be treated will be spread with a
tumescent solution. The doctor will make small incisions. The
doctor will make more number of small incisions while
performing tumescent abdominal liposuction and this is
different from that of tummy tuck wherein the incision made is
long. Using a cannula the surgeon will remove all the fat
deposits that are in excess by sucking these fat deposits after
breaking them. The best thing about this surgery is that the
affected patient can walk immediately after the surgery. Your
surgeon will give you necessary instructions as regards to the
post-operative do’s and don’ts for the forthcoming weeks.
Normally many surgeries call for bed rest after the operation;
however in this surgery the patient is advised to be active
after the surgery. You can start having short walks on the same
day and have your shower on the following day. Within 24 hrs
after the surgery your abdomen starts becoming flatter and this
is because of the drainage taking place in this period. The
main problem could be that there will be swelling on the second
day once the drainage is stopped. It is important for you to
know that this will subside after some time. It is also
possible for some patients to face difficulties while bending
because of the swelling in the abdominal region.
*The side effects and associated risks for abdominal
liposuction are relatively less as compared to most of the
surgeries that are being performed. It is advisable that you
keep in contact with your doctor often and inform him on things
that he wants to know. If you provide the correct information
to your doctor you can ensure that the surgery goes smoothly
and you will get a flat abdomen. You must realize that this fat
could return if your do not follow any proper diet and also do
exercises regularly after the surgery.
